The official animal of Australia is the Kangaroo. The official bird of Australia is the Emu. Why a Kangaroo and an Emu? Common theory has it that the Kangaroo and the Emu are not good at walking backwards. So, they are symbolic of Australia’s determination to move forward as a nation.
At Cisco Live Australia, the Anuta Networks team had the chance to witness first-hand this strong urge to move forward. Despite a small population, Australia is an advanced country with users embracing advanced technologies. Hence, many companies are enthusiastic about moving to the cloud.
The Australian economy grew rapidly in last few years and the Australian government is investing heavily in its infrastructure. For instance, we learned about NBN (Next-Gen Broadband Network), a government initiative to bring broadband services to almost all homes in Australia by 2015.
We met some of the largest telecom service providers in Australia who have created global standards for cloud network service offerings. They loved that Anuta Networks nCloudX can deliver and orchestrate services on multi-vendor software defined datacenter.
There were many other customers and resellers that showed interest in the product. We learned an interesting bit of trivia: an enterprise customer confessed that they pay as much as $60,000 for network services consulting in order to on-board each new application. They agreed that nCloudX will offer significant OPEX savings through automation.
We loved the event, especially the music and dances. Intel sponsored some delicious food and refreshments.
The weather in Melbourne was spectacular. Fortunately, we were able to squeeze in some sightseeing. Being fans of Cricket, we visited the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Just as MCG is a must see for cricket fans, we think that Australia is a must visit for Cloud Computing professionals. It is well worth the long trip down-under.
